The ACCA-NCC apprenticeship program for 2010-2011 is now accepting applications.
NOTE: As of July 29 any first year applications will be placed on a wait list. The open enrollment closes August 1, 2010
This four year, State of Maryland registered (held at Montgomery College's Gudelsky Institute in Rockville, Maryland), program is designed to prepare the serious-minded for a career in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) industry. The program is held two nights a week - seven months a year. The related training is complimented by on-the-job training the apprentice receives from their employer.

National
HVAC Technician Certification ![]()
North American Technician Excellence (NATE) is the leading certification program for technicians in the heating ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) industry.
The Core Exam covers safety, tools, soft skills, principles of heat transfer, total comfort, and electrical. An HVAC technician must pass the Core Exam and at least one of the Specialty Exams to become a Certified Technician.
There are five separate Specialty Exams - air conditioning, air distribution, gas heating, heat pumps, and oil heating. There are two types: installation and service (service technicians are automatically certified as installation technicians, as well). The Core Exam consists of 50 questions and each Specialty Exam consists of 100 questions. Test timing for the Core Exam and one Specialty Exam is a maximum of 4 hours.

- NOTE: The refresher process is not a training process. Those taking this test should have a basic and working knowledge of HVAC equipment, installing and/or servicing, and prior related theory instruction (at least 240 hours).

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has mandated mandatory certification for a national recycling and emissions reduction program in the stationary air conditioning and refrigeration industry.
The Air Conditioning Contractors of America/Pennsylvania College of Technology Transfer Center certification test has been EPA approved.NOTE: The refresher process is not a training process. Those taking this test should have a basic and working knowledge of HVAC equipment, installing and/or servicing, and prior related theory instruction (at least 240 hours).
